Gagan at age of 19 won the award of Miss NZ Best Smile Punjaban 2012 in the beauty pageant Miss New Zealand Punjaban 2012 held on 13th October at Vodafone event center in New Zealand.
Just 3 months earlier from this award, she came to New Zealand by on her own to study Business Management from Toi-ohomai Institute of Technology, Rotorua. She was new to country however, she had courage to follow her passion at any cause and made her dream true. Miss NZ Punjaban 2012 winner decision was came under controversy, because after the declaration, other contestants including Gagan Randhawa came to know the winner did not follow the format of rounds and moreover, organisation want to make winner only who was permanent residence!
Fortune did not support Gagan in 2012, but her outstanding performance left a mark somewhere. Due to this, she was nominated as Miss NZ Punjaban 2015 to represent New Zealand in Miss World Punjaban 2015
